Introductory Pack

An introductory pack, including a copy of a recent edition of the Society Journal may be obtained by sending a request and £3.00 payment (UK only) via our Membership/Shop website at www.ngsjoin.com, using the ‘Sundry Payment to the Society’ option. Alternatively, send a cheque or postal order with a request to the address at the foot of this page.
Overseas residents (or UK, if preferred to the above) who wish only to see a sample journal in electronic format, should go to www.ngsjoin.com and select the ‘E-journals’ option followed by ‘Journal 1/25’, and links will be forwarded.

Joining the Society

You can join or renew online with your bank card or with Paypal at: www.ngsjoin.com

If you prefer, for Postal membership only (not Online membership) you can join or renew by post.  Follow the links below to download a printable form in PDF or Word format.  You can pay by credit / debit card** or (in pounds sterling) by cheque, banker’s draft, money order or postal order.  Post the completed form to the address shown thereon.

Do not send us your card details by ordinary post. If your letter was lost in the post then your card details could be used fraudulently.

Renewing your membership

Postal (hard journal) members’ membership numbers and renewal dates are shown on the front of the journal address sheets, above the name and address, and a renewal form is printed on the reverse.  When membership becomes due for renewal, it can be effected either with the form or via the website at www.ngsjoin.com.  Online (E-journal) members won’t receive the address sheets, but a reminder is included in the email which conveys the links for the journal immediately before the member’s renewal date.  All members who become overdue will receive a reminder before the next journal is due for publication.  If necessary, the downloadable application/renewal form (see above) may be used.

Renewals operate on the anniversary system and normally fall due twelve or thirty-six months from the date of joining. Membership is not transferable and moneys are not refundable. Your subscription expires at the end of the month stated on your membership card.

**With effect from May 2005, it has become necessary to introduce the following provision:
On receipt of a notification, from an overseas ‘Postal’ member of the Society, that his/her distribution copy of a journal has not arrived within the usual reasonably expected time after despatch, the Society will immediately supply an electronic version as a replacement.  However, if the member subsequently requests a replacement in hard-copy format, the Society will, before despatch, require payment of an amount equal to the difference between the postal charge for delivery to the UK and that for delivery to the destination country.

E-journal members

If you miss an E-Journal during your renewal process then please contact the Membership Secretary to provide you with the link and password. Alternatively, remember that copies of any E-Journal can be ordered free of charge via the Society Shop.

A reminder that each E-Journal issue has a different password applicable to that issue only.

Membership listings

In accordance with Data Processing restrictions, membership listings are no longer printed in the handbook or journals.  The Society will not pass details of any individual member to anyone other than another bona fide member wishing to make contact for modelling or Area Group purposes.  However, members are offered the facility of also opting out of the latter arrangement, should they so wish.

Can I Pay my Membership by Direct Debit or Standing Order?

At the moment, for the size of the Society, it is felt that the existing payment methods (cheque, debit/credit card, PayPal) are sufficient.

For Direct Debits, the Society would be required to register as a direct debit collector. For Standing Orders, in the event of a change in subscription or fees, it would be necessary to contact and request members to amend their arrangement. Neither payment method is suitable for the three-year renewal option.
